Duck Tracks-Winter 2006 issue includes the following articles:

  • 2006 Federal duck stamp will be released on record early date! . . .The article tells about this year's winner of the Federal Duck Stamp Contest, Sherrie Russell Meline, only the second time in history that a woman has won the FDS contest. The First Day Ceremony for the 2006 Federal and Junior duck stamps will be held June 1, 2006 11:00 a.m. in conjunction with WASHINGTON 2006.

  • Duck Office gets new Chief. . . Patricia Fisher was selected to head the Federal Duck Stamp Office. She will be responsible for overseeing the annual Federal Duck Stamp Contest.
  • President's Corner . . . President Ira Cotton gives an overview of 2005 duck stamp issues.

  • SI honors King Buck . . . Sports Illustrated - July 11, 2005 issue . . . King Buck was included in SI's list of 25 Amazing Animals.

  • Wetlands Loan Act Introduced in Congress. . . Legislation introduced recently to protect critical waterfowl habitat nationwide.

  • Wigeon to be featured on 2006 Oklahoma stamp  . . . James Hublick took first place in the 2006 Oklahoma Waterfowl Stamp competition with a painting of an American wigeon.

  • Mystery Hunting Lodge . . . by Tom Richardson. Tom describes duck stamps he acquired from a retired gentleman. The stamps belonged to the gentleman's father-in-law who worked at or was a member of a duck hunting lodge in Michigan back in the 1930s and 40s. The stamps had apparently been obtained over a period of years from hunters at the lodge. They appeared to be used and signed "by the artists." Tom is looking for more information about these items and the Michigan Hunting Lodge. Contact Tom if you can shed some light on the matter.

  • RW72 Duck stamp plate variety discovered . . . by Bob Dumaine. Bob illustrates and describes a major stamp variety found on RW72 - some stamps have frame lines on three sides, top, right and bottom, while others are totally without any lines.

  • Engraver selected for RW73 . . . Postage stamp engraver Piotr Naszarkowski was selected to do the engraving for the 2006 US federal duck stamp.

  • 2005 State Duck Stamp Issues . . .  The annual NDSCS poll is now open for voting. Members are asked to vote for best and worst designs for State Duck Stamp Issues.

  • 2006 La Duck Contest Winner Announced. . . Edward Suthoff's painting of an alert yellow Labrador retriever emerging from an open field while a pair of mallards fly in the background was chosen as winner of the 18th annual Louisiana Conservation Stamp and Print Competition sponsored by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

  • Remarque display has debut  . . . A beautiful display of federal duck stamps, each with an accompanying remarque, made its debut during the 2005 Federal Duck Stamp Contest.

  • WA 06 Seeks Stamp Ambassadors . . . May 27-June 3, 2006 www.washington-2006.org  Volunteers for any W2006 assignment may sign up online on the exhibition's web site.

  • Hautman wins Minnesota contest with Mallard . . . Joseph Hautman's mallard was chosen as the winning design for the 2006 Minnesota Migratory Waterfowl Stamp.

  • Long-billed curlew for Massachusetts . . . Randy Julius captured top honors in the Massachusetts Waterfowl Stamp Competition for his exceptional rendering of a long billed curlew.

  • Virginia validates duck stamp . . . Legislation has passed that will make the duck stamp mandatory for Virginia hunters. The Virginia duck stamp has been a voluntary purchase since it was first issued in 1988.

  • Ohio stamp pictures artist's dog. . . The image on the selvage of the 2005 Ohio Duck stamp is a photograph taken by the stamp artist, Adam Grimm. Adam's dog, Dakota, is featured retrieving a drake wood duck.

  • California artist produces first duck stamp . . . article tells about artist Rich Radigonda's artistic background and many of the awards he has won.

  • NDSCS Annual Meeting Schedule for WA 2006. . . Plan to attend the NDSCS's annual meeting Thursday, June 1, 2006 at 2:00 pm. The meeting takes place during the WASHINGTON 2006 Philatelic Exhibition. Please advise Wes Miller by email if you will be in attendance.

  • Michigan selects wigeon for 2006 . . . Artist Peter Mathios' beautiful painting of an American wigeon was chosen as the design for the 2006 Michigan state duck stamp. The article gives some background on the artist.
